Hypnotherapy & Wellbeing

At Mind & Soul Wellness, I offer a calm, supportive and personalised approach to hypnotherapy in Plymouth, helping you make positive changes in the way you think, feel and respond to life.

Hypnotherapy can be a powerful way to work with the subconscious mind, helping you move beyond patterns of thought or behaviour that may be holding you back. It can support you if you're experiencing stress or anxiety, low confidence, poor sleep, unwanted habits or behaviours, or simply feel that something in your life needs to change.

Every person is different, so sessions are tailored around you, your experiences and what you would like to achieve.

My approach combines hypnosis with an understanding of how the brain responds to stress, emotions and established patterns, helping you develop healthier ways of thinking and responding that can support lasting change.

Alongside Hypnotherapy, I also offer Reiki Healing and HypnoReiki™ so

whether you are looking for help with a specific issue or would simply like to feel calmer, more confident and more in control, Mind & Soul Wellness provides a welcoming, non-judgemental space where you can take positive steps towards the changes you want to make.

My Approach & Journey

Caroline Newcombe

My journey into therapy and wellbeing has been shaped by a combination of professional training, personal experience and a genuine interest in what helps us create positive and lasting change.

Like many people, my own life has brought challenges as well as change. Losing my brother to cancer at a young age had a profound impact on me and led to a period where I experienced my own mental health difficulties. That experience gave me a very personal understanding of grief, emotional wellbeing and the importance of feeling genuinely listened to, understood and supported.

My Level 2 and Level 3 Counselling qualifications gave me a valuable foundation in listening skills, self-awareness and understanding the therapeutic relationship. From there, I became increasingly interested in the connection between our thoughts, emotions, behaviours and the way our brain responds to our experiences.

This led me to train as a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist, an approach that particularly appealed to me because of its positive, forward-looking focus and grounding in neuroscience.

I also believe that learning should never really stop. I regularly undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) across different areas of mental and emotional wellbeing, therapeutic approaches and hypnotherapy. This ongoing learning continues to shape the way I work, allowing me to take a more integrative and flexible approach, drawing on different skills and techniques to suit the individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

Above all, I want you to feel comfortable being yourself. There is no judgement and no expectation that you should be a certain way. I offer a calm, supportive space where you can take some time for yourself, feel heard and understood, and begin making the changes that feel right for you.

I undertake regular Supervision and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training to stay up to date with the latest techniques and developments, allowing me to provide the best possible support for my clients.

Brainwaves

There are still many misconceptions about hypnosis, so it’s completely understandable if you’re not quite sure what to expect.

Hypnosis is not about losing control, being unconscious or being made to do something you don't want to do. In fact, you remain aware and in control throughout the session and can stop at any time.

Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention and deep relaxation, similar to becoming absorbed in a good book, a film or simply drifting into a daydream. As your body relaxes and your conscious mind becomes quieter, you may find it easier to focus inwardly, explore different ways of thinking and become more receptive to positive suggestions that support the changes you would like to make.

Everyone experiences hypnosis differently. Some people feel deeply relaxed, while others simply notice a sense of calm and focused awareness. There is no 'right' way to feel and you don't have to reach a particular depth of hypnosis for the session to be beneficial.

Modern hypnotherapy is a collaborative therapeutic approach that can be used to support a wide range of goals, including managing stress and anxiety, improving confidence, changing unwanted habits, overcoming fears and phobias, improving sleep and creating healthier patterns of thought and behaviour.

And don't worry – there are no swinging pocket watches or loss of control!

You are always an active participant in the process.

Hypnotherapy isn't something that is simply done to you. We work together, and your motivation and willingness to engage with the process are an important part of therapy.

You don't need to arrive completely confident that hypnotherapy will work, but being open to the experience and genuinely wanting to make a change can help you get the most from your sessions.

Hypnotherapy can provide the tools, support and space to help you approach things differently – but ultimately, the positive changes you make belong to you.

FREE Hypnotherapy Consultation

Your FREE Hypnotherapy Consultation is a relaxed and informal opportunity for us to meet, get to know each other and talk about what has brought you to hypnotherapy.

We’ll explore what you would like help with, how things are affecting you at the moment and the changes you would like to make.

I’ll explain how hypnotherapy works, what you can expect from our sessions and how I may be able to support you.

We’ll also go through some brief background information together, which helps me understand you and tailor future sessions to your individual needs and goals.

Most importantly, this is your opportunity to ask questions, get a feel for how I work and decide whether I’m the right therapist for you.

There is no hypnosis during the initial consultation and absolutely no pressure to book further sessions. It’s simply a friendly, confidential conversation and the first step towards deciding what feels right for you.

Hypnotherapy Sessions

We will begin each session with a relaxed conversation about what’s been going well and any positive changes you may have noticed. We’ll talk about how you’ve been feeling, what you would like to focus on and explore small, achievable steps that can help you continue moving forward.

Drawing on our understanding of neuroscience and how our thoughts, emotions and behaviours can influence one another, I’ll tailor each session to you and what you would like to achieve. This means your hypnotherapy is personal to you, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

You will then get comfortable while I gently guide you into hypnosis – a calm, deeply relaxed and focused state.

This part of the session usually lasts around 20–25 minutes and uses carefully chosen therapeutic techniques and positive suggestions tailored to you and your goals.

Many people find this part of the session incredibly relaxing and leave feeling calmer, more positive and refreshed.

The number of sessions needed will vary depending on you, your goals and what you would like support with. We can discuss this during your FREE Initial Consultation and review things as we go.

As part of your FREE Initial Consultation, you will  also receive my FREE Hypnotherapy Relaxation Track, which you can listen to at home to support your relaxation and hypnotherapy journey.

My Approach to Hypnotherapy

I originally trained as a Clinical Solution-Focused Hypnotherapist, giving me a strong foundation in an approach that draws on hypnosis, neuroscience, positive psychology

and solution-focused techniques.

Since completing my initial training, my way of working has continued to develop. Through further training, ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and experience working with different clients, I now take a more integrative approach to hypnotherapy.

This means I am not limited to one particular method. While solution-focused principles remain an important part of my work, I can draw upon a wider range of therapeutic techniques and approaches, adapting sessions to the individual person, their needs and what they would like to achieve.

Hypnotherapy can help us work with both our conscious thoughts and the deeper patterns, habits, emotions and responses that may have developed over time. Through hypnosis, relaxation, visualisation, therapeutic conversation and carefully chosen techniques, we can begin to explore and encourage more helpful ways of thinking, feeling and responding.

My approach is collaborative, supportive and forward-looking. We don't necessarily need to spend a great deal of time focusing on the past, but neither do we have to ignore it. Where previous experiences are relevant to what is happening now, there can be space to acknowledge and work with them in a way that feels appropriate for you.

Ultimately, integrative hypnotherapy allows me to tailor the way I work to you, rather than expecting you to fit into one particular therapeutic model.

Overcoming Anxiety with Hypnotherapy

Anxious lady

Anxiety can affect anyone at any stage of life. It can leave you feeling constantly

on edge, overwhelmed, or trapped in a cycle of worry and self-doubt.

Whether it’s general anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, or specific fears, these feelings can impact every area of your life — from sleep and concentration to confidence and relationships.

Hypnotherapy offers a gentle yet powerful way to break free from anxiety.

By working with the subconscious mind — where our automatic thoughts, feelings, and responses are formed — hypnotherapy helps you to understand and change the underlying patterns that cause anxious thinking.

During our sessions, you’ll be guided into a deeply relaxed, focused state where your mind becomes more open to positive suggestions and new ways of thinking.

 Together, we will work to:

  • Reduce feelings of worry and tension.
  • Build a calmer, more balanced mindset.
  • Develop healthier coping strategies.
  • Restore confidence and self-belief.
  • Reconnect with a sense of inner peace and control.

Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process — you remain fully in control at all times.

Many clients describe it as a deeply calming experience that allows them to feel more grounded, present, and optimistic about the future.

Build Confidence and Self-Esteem with Hypnotherapy

Confident man

If you often doubt yourself or struggle to feel good enough, hypnotherapy can help you reconnect with your natural confidence.

Many of the thoughts that limit our self-belief come from old patterns buried in the subconscious mind.

Through gentle, focused relaxation, hypnotherapy helps you release those negative beliefs and replace them with positive, empowering ones.

You will begin to feel more self-assured, comfortable in your own skin, and able to handle life’s challenges with calm confidence.

Each session is tailored to support your personal growth — helping you build lasting self-belief and a genuine sense of inner strength.

Frequently Asked Questions - Hypnotherapy

Please reach us at caroline.newcombe@hotmail.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

No. Hypnosis is not sleep, although you may feel deeply relaxed. You remain aware of what is happening and can hear my voice throughout. Some people become so relaxed that they drift in and out of awareness, which is completely normal.

No. You remain in control throughout hypnosis. You cannot be made to say or do anything you don't want to do, and you can bring yourself out of hypnosis whenever you choose.

Everyone experiences hypnosis slightly differently. You might feel very relaxed, pleasantly heavy or light, or simply calm and focused. There isn't a particular feeling you need to achieve for hypnosis to be beneficial.

Hypnotherapy can be used to support a wide range of concerns, including anxiety and stress, confidence and self-esteem, sleep difficulties, unwanted habits, fears and phobias, smoking or vaping cessation and making positive lifestyle changes. If you're unsure whether hypnotherapy may be suitable for what you're experiencing, you're welcome to contact me for an initial conversation.

Not necessarily. My approach can be forward-looking and focused on the changes you would like to make. However, because I work integratively, there is also space to acknowledge past experiences where they are relevant and where you feel comfortable doing so. You will never be pressured to discuss something you don't feel ready to talk about.

The initial consultation gives us an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to hypnotherapy, what you would like help with and what you hope to achieve. I will explain more about how I work, answer any questions you may have and discuss whether hypnotherapy feels like the right approach for you.

There is no hypnosis during the initial consultation.

There is no set number because everyone is different. Some people come for help with a very specific issue and may only need a small number of sessions, while others benefit from working together for longer. We can regularly review how things are progressing so that you remain involved in deciding what feels right for you.

Yes. Hypnotherapy can work very well online, allowing you to have your session from the comfort of your own home. You simply need somewhere private and comfortable where you are unlikely to be disturbed.

Hypnotherapy is suitable for many people, but there are circumstances where it may not be appropriate or where additional medical or psychological support may be needed. We can discuss this during your initial consultation, and I will always work within the boundaries of my training and professional practice.

Yes. Your privacy is extremely important, and what you share during sessions is treated confidentially, subject to the usual professional and legal exceptions which I will explain when we begin working together.

You don't need to have any particular belief in hypnosis. Being open to the process and willing to engage with the sessions is much more important. I will explain hypnosis beforehand so you know what to expect.

Frequently Asked Questions - Reiki & HypnoReiki™

Please reach us at caroline.newcombe@hotmail.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Reiki is a gentle, holistic practice used to encourage relaxation, calm and a sense of wellbeing. During a session, you remain fully clothed and can simply relax while reiki healing is offered using gentle hand positions, either lightly on or just above the body.

HypnoReiki™ combines the deep relaxation and focused state of hypnosis w reiki healing within the same session. It brings together two complementary approaches to create a deeply relaxing experience that can be tailored to you and what you would like from your session.

We will begin with a short conversation about how you are feeling and what you would like from your session. You can then make yourself comfortable and relax. For reiki, you simply rest while reiki healing is offered.

With HypnoReiki™, I will gently guide you into a relaxed hypnotic state and incorporate reiki as part of the experience.

Everyone's experience is different. You may notice warmth, tingling, heaviness, lightness or a sense of deep relaxation. You may also simply feel peaceful and comfortable. There is no particular sensation you are expected to experience.

No. Hypnosis isn't sleep, you remain in control and will usually be aware of my voice and what is happening around you. You may become deeply relaxed and find that your attention naturally drifts at times.

Both can provide time to slow down, relax and focus on your overall wellbeing. HypnoReiki™ also allows the hypnotherapy element to be personalised, where appropriate, towards positive changes or goals you would like to work on.

No. They are complementary wellbeing approaches and are not substitutes for medical or mental health advice, diagnosis or treatment. If you have concerns about your health, you should always seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional.
